CLASSES JULY - OCTOBER 2006:

Sunday 30th July
Picasso: Love & War 1935-1945

Picasso has been an inspiration to Marco’s work over the years. You will learn many different new approaches to drawing that you may not have considered previously.
Draw from Picasso’s work using colour pencils, pens, pencils and crayon!
You will be drawing in your sketchbook non-stop all day (apart from coffee breaks) trying to capture the energy of Picasso’s work whilst learning the techniques he used to express his ideas.
This will be a great way to teach you about expressive freedom.

Picasso: Love & War 1935–1945 explores the personal and artistic relationship between Pablo Picasso and his lover and muse of those years, Dora Maar with over 300 works displayed.
The two lovers inspired one another intellectually and artistically throughout their time together. The exhibition reveals intimacies of a dialogue between two highly charged artists at a time of romantic connection. As their romance unfolded, Picasso celebrated his love for Dora Maar in sensuous drawings, prints and paintings. In turn, Dora Maar celebrated the couple’s intimacy through exquisite photography.

Tutor: Marco Luccio
Time: 10am-4pm
Cost: $80 plus $20 entry

Sunday 27th Aug
Painting and Drawing the Nude – One Pose
Martin Studio Special

As with all of these classes, beginners are more than welcome to join this life drawing workshop. Apart from being an inspiring subject, drawings of the nude are an important part of any folio preparation.
An introduction on how to draw the model, capturing the pose and creating an interesting composition, will begin the day, with demonstrations of techniques throughout the class. For example: how to get the most out of charcoal, how to create lush flesh tones with your paints (acrylics or watercolour), how to capture folds of drapery.
With the model returning to the same pose for the entire day, you will have extended time to work into your drawing or painting. You will be able to complete or take your work further than usually possible in class time.
Work on one piece for extended time or take advantage of being able to sketch the model from various angles.
We have been offered access to the wonderful Martin Studio in Eltham for this occasion.
(Model: Elizabeth)

Where: Martin Studio, Eltham
Tutor: Debra Luccio
Time: 10am-4pm
Cost: $95

Sunday 24th Sept
The Leonardo da Vinci Machines
An exhibition of genius

This will be a wonderful opportunity to really practice your drawing skills and learn new techniques in an inspiring environment with exciting subject matter.
You will gain confidence in drawing what you see and with three different mediums.
Looking at Leonardo’s machines you will learn to draw using some of Leonardo’s tools such as the dip pen and ink, pencil and conte.
You will discover the techniques Leonardo used to describe these inventions and explore the various ways he applied them with line, cross hatch, tone, and others.
A great way to fill up your sketchbook with really strong observational drawings.

From the Museum of Leonardo da Vinci in Italy, Waterfront City is proud to present this significant international exhibition displaying 64 models of Leonardo da Vinci’s famous machines, constructed by Florentine artisans and based on Da Vinci’s famous codices.

Where: Waterfront, Melbourne Docklands
Tutor: Marco Luccio
Time: 10am-4pm
Cost: $80 plus entry $18

Sunday 15th Oct
Sketching Animals at the Zoo

A day at the Royal Melbourne Zoo - one of Debra’s favourite environments.
Using the powerful and expressive drawings of animals made by Brett Whitely, Joseph Albers and other artists as inspiration, you will make a series of powerful drawings. You will learn to choose the right medium for each animal to best express the shape, mass, character and energy of that particular animal.
This will be a great day of building your sketchbook whilst learning to hone your skills in capturing a challenging and inspiring subject matter.
